Hi, can anybody give me some advise ? My hens are not laying at the mo they are approx 2 yrs old. I got them at pol, but they have never laid regularly. Today i got an egg without a shell, and what looks like a baby chick (we have a thingyrel). I feed them layers pellets and they have access to a crushed oyster shell mix. Ive just wormed them, and they are on coxoid, because one of them was ill and sadly passed away over the weekend. I have one in isolation after she showed the same symptoms, ( the vet gave her an antibiotic shot yesterday- she seems a lot brighter today any help would be appreciated thks

Hi Mark,
Sorry to hear your chicks are not well.
Mine had very runny poo, with a bit of yellow in it, she looked very depressed and stood on her own. She also slept most of the time. I cleaned her up and brought her inside, thinking a bit of warmth and TLC might help.
Unfortunately this was over the bank holiday weekend, i spoke to Sarah and she thought that coxiod might help! I ordered some but it didn't arrive in time. I'm giving it to my others though.
The other thing i noticed is that she did have lice. I dusted her with lice powder but it didn't seem to work.
When my second chick started to display the same symptoms, i found a vet to see her ( my dogs vet recommended him). She was given an antibiotic shot , i think its called baytril, and a course of tablets. As soon as she had the shot she perked up and fingers crossed she seems fine now.
Good luck with yours x
