Hi
I had one duck egg hatch yesterday (incubator) unfortunately the rest of the eggs didn't hatch (the place that posted them to me messed up on the posting so they were in the postal system for too long) was hoping to get at least 2 hatch but wasn't really expecting any to hatch.
The thing is I now have a very lonely duck who keeps crying, and I feel so sorry for him, he is in the brooder I have put a small toy chick in there with her, (half her size), I keep going in and and holding her and talking to her, but I do have to work as well, I am lucky in the fact that I work from home, I cannot put her in my office as I spend large amounts of time on the phone, but do keep going in and seeing her.
There is another brooder in the same room as her that has 14 chicks in aged 3 weeks, I obviously cannot put her in there as they are too boisterous and they are chickens and she is a duck.
Any suggestions would be really helpfully as I feel so sorry for her.

Hi Angela
I dont really know what else to suggest other than keep ging to see her. Have you contacted Sarah from Happy Chicks so if she has any the same age? May be worth a try. Failing that, I have never had a single duck in a brooder. Perhaps a soft toy would help and keep going it as much as possible.
Sorry I cannot be of more help its just a funny one.
Kindest regards
Simon

I have ducks that are 12 days old and they would be fine with 3 week old chicks now (they have grown so quickly). My advice would be to try and source 1 or 2 ducklings for her and then after 2 weeks just let them all live together or if there is no need grow them on separately.

Hi Angela
So she is drinking and eating, that is excellent news and proof you are doing what you should and you have a healthy happy baby. Just wish I could have been of more help, although its better to concentrate one one happy baby although a little crying at first then add to a problem.
Glas its settled down, dont forget we love pics!!!
Kindest regards
Simon
