Hi there
It all depends on who you ask. Some sites report 4-5 years, some 5-10 years but it isnt unheard of for a free range chicken to live till they are 14 although its a rarety. So if I say 5-10 years with the latter half being the "Norm" I guess this will be correct. Sorry to be so vague but it all depends on diet, conditions they are kept in, Free range or battery etc etc etc
No compare that to a Battery Hen who is very lucky to live till they are 2. The figures speak for themselves.
Hope this helps

Mine have all lived 5-10 years, and have all been very healthy, if they are not I think they die as chicks, sort of survival of the fittest.

Hi again
I spoke to someone last year who had one at 16 and one at 14. Just goes to show you doesn't it. 5-10 years is good you must be doing something right.

It is VERY unusual to do so. I have only ever come across a few that have.
A good healthy layer should start laying about age 5/6 months and continue to lay past it's 2nd year. Production often slows after the hen reaches about two years old but they can still lay a few times a week up to 3 years old.
Kindest regards
