Hi, I'm hoping you can help us with a problem we have with our light sussex. We bought her from you last september with a lovely maran. The maran has been laying for the past 2 weeks but our light susses has not. She has been sitting in he nest box every morning but as yet no egg has arrived. She seems happy and is eating and drinking, but we are a little concerned that an egg may be 'stuck,' although we can't see anything when we have attempted to look. We are hoping this is just normal behaviour in the process of beginning to lay, but any advice would be really good to know.

My suggestion would be that the hen is broody. Does she only come out to feed and water and then go back in the nest box? If she is broody, take her out of the chicken house and put her in another run ( a sort of solitary confinement) for a couple of days, she'll soon forget she's broody and will resume as normal. But if no improvement, take her to the vet, because if she is egg bound or there is another problem, the vet will help.
