Hiya guys, I have silkie, that I have had a few days, she seems a little underweight, I can feel all her bones and she doesn't seem as robust as my other silkie which i have had from a day old. She is about 16-17 weeks old and weighs 0.49KG she has a bad eye at the moment and is on 0.15ml of bavtril and fucithamic drops for her eye both twice a day, I was wondering if there was anything i could do to help boost her nutritional status. Also she has unsavoury things matted in her feathers, what would be the best soap to use to bathe her? Cheers in advance, Laura.

hi use a mild baby bath and luke warm water solution then towel dry and use a hair dryer on a low heat and low speed and ensure she is dry before putting her back outside. try adding poultry drink to water it is supposed to increase appitite and is an all round tonic. She may need extra vitamins for a boost whilst she is under the weather.

Hi,poultry drink is very usefull, and, should help.As well as this though,I would add ACV and garlic to her water. If you don't normally put ACV in their water,to start with put 10mls into a litre, after a day or two increase it to 15mls.Most poultry keepers give it for one week a month daily fo general health and wellbeing,as your girl isn't too good at the moment.I would add it until she starts to improve. Also, try giving her a bit more carbohydrate in the form of ready break or porridge and rice and pasta.I wouldn't give her ready brek or porridge every day,and not the pasta or rice every day, just give one of these every 2-3 days or so.

Hi Lydia, I use AVC and garlic granules in all my chickens drinking water on a regular basis. Her medication is working a treat and she is coming on very well. I'm so pleased! ! have been adding cottage cheese to her crumb, and mixing corn with her veges, she is spoilt rotten! Well they all are, they are never without a cuddle and a good dollop of TLC. Will try a few carbs tho and have a look around for some poultry drink, Cheers Laura.
