We got two ex battery hens in June, both were missing some feathers and very thin. We've given them poultry spice and tonic in their water, and they currently live with two rhode islands who took to each other very well. One of the battery hens is looking fluffy, and full, the other is plump, laying eggs and showing every sign of being a well chicken except for the lack of new feathers. Any ideas? thanks

Hi Emma, I got 3 ex battery hens at the beginning of March. Two have all their feathers back but one of them is still missing alot of feathers hence her nickname 'Scrappy bird' Interestingly she started laying the first and has never missed a days of laying an egg whereas the other two have. One theory is that she has put a significant proportion of her energy into laying eggs at the expense of her feather recovery.
