Please help. i had my first visit frm the fox at 4.30am this morning. we were woken by the awful screams of one of our chickens!!!!!! luckily the fox was NOT successful on this visit, but now im panicking that he will come again now that he knows chickens are here. we live in a well built up area, with houses all round, has anyone got any ideas on how to keep the fox away???

Hi, They don`t call the fox crafty for nothing!! You can`t actually stop the fox from visiting, all you can do is make sure your chickens are very secure. Ensure you have all doors, nest boxes bolted as tightly as possible with no gaps that the fox can get their claws behind, foxes can be very persisitent in trying to gain access and will dig and scratch to get at the chickens. I now have a gavanised pen which is also locked with the locked coop inside. A little like fort knox !!
Another tip is to make sure all food scraps have been picked up in case it is the scent of this encouraging the fox to visit.
Good luck

Hi there
There is little one can do in these instances. Like mamheyes said, remove all scraps off leftover food. Remove the food at night and bring it in so the fox cannot smell it, and above all ensure they are locket away tight. A fox by its nature is a persistant animal and will return nightly. Padlock them up and keep all areas clean. Thats all one can do and I wish you well.
Kindest regards
Simon
